About our Staff

Meet our office staff below. We also offer the services of many bilingual contractors who have extensive experience in both North America and Japan.


Izumi Suzuki – President / Certified Court Interpreter / Conference Interpreter

After being trained in simultaneous interpreting in Japan, Izumi established Suzuki Myers & Associates, Ltd. in 1984 with her husband, Steven D. Myers, in order to offer Japanese and English bilingual services.

She is certified by the ATA (American Translators Association) in both English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation. She has held many positions at ATA, such as ATA Director, Japanese Language Division Officer/Administrator/Chair, and Group Chairman of the Certification Committee for English to Japanese translation. Currently, she serves as a member of its Certification Committee, as well as the Interpreting Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC). Izumi is also a court-certified interpreter in California, one of only eleven in the country. She helped establish the Michigan branch of ATA, MiTiN (Michigan Translators/Interpreters Network), and previously served as its first President. Today she acts as an Advisor to the Board of Directors. Additionally, she supports the Japan Association of Translators (JAT) by serving on the Special Interest Group / Simultaneous Interpreting Group (SIG), and is an active member of the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT). She has accompanied high-profile persons to Japan as their official interpreter, including Jennifer Granholm (former Governor of Michigan) in 2008, and Mike Duggan (current Mayor of Detroit) in 2015. In 2018, Izumi was honored to interpret for then Governor Snyder and Shiga Governor Mikazuki at the 50th anniversary of the Michigan-Shiga sister state relationship.

Steven D. Myers (deceased)

Steve passed away on January 17, 2012.

After becoming a member of the bar in Michigan, Steve lived in Tokyo for over 10 years, during which he worked as Executive Director for the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), CEO of a major American marketing firm, and Chairman of the Board of ArtBridge, Inc. He also had extensive management experience in Japanese law firms, as well as in Japanese-US trade and business matters.

Steve worked hard for many years acting as a bridge between Novi City and the large Japanese community living there. At the cherry blossom tree planting ceremony in the Spring of 2012, which commemorates Japan’s gift of cherry blossom trees to the US in 1912, the city of Novi planted a tree in Steve’s honor with a dedicated nameplate and photo.


Hiromi Fujii – Director of Translation / Conference Interpreter

After graduating from McKendree University in Illinois, Hiromi received her master’s degree in interpretation and translation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She is ATA certified in English to Japanese translation, and has over 10 years of interpreting experience working with a wide variety of clients both within the US and abroad. She also currently serves as the president of MiTiN.

Ayumi Uchino – Education Manager

Ayumi has lived in Michigan since 1996. As the manager of our English and Japanese language class services, she facilitates communication between students and instructors in order to ensure the best quality lessons.

Eiko Koyama – Office Manager

Eiko lived in California and New York before moving to Michigan, bringing her total time in the US to 14 years. She has lots of experience volunteering for many of her son’s school events, such as sports and orchestra, throughout his elementary, middle school, and high school years.

Bill Londo – Translation Manager

william-londo Bill has been learning and teaching about Japan since 1985, spending 7 years in Japan in the 80s and 90s. Bill earned an M.S. in chemistry at the University of Minnesota, and then proceeded to get his M.A. and Ph.D. in Japanese history from the University of Michigan. He has taught East Asian and Japanese history and religion for over 15 years, and has published various articles on pre-modern Japanese history. He is currently an instructor in the Department of History at Oakland University, and manages the Japanese to English translation work done in our office.
